Two-Day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Overview

The Two-Day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a perfect trek to enjoy the splendor of the Annapurna region on a tight schedule. This 2-day trek provides you with an unforgettable adventure with an exquisite blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and breathtaking panoramas.

Well, the trek begins in Pokhara where you will get a drive to reach Banthanti which will be your major hiking point. Also, you will be walking 4 hours each day hence, making this trek accessible and enjoyable for all. Whether you are a novice or an experienced trekker, the trails are well-marked with moderate altitude, hence, the journey is quite manageable.

During the Poon Hill Trek, you will pass through dense rhododendron forest, and terraced farms-all while being surrounded by the majestic Himalayas. Some of the major mountain peaks you will be able to witness from the Poon Hill viewpoint are Dhaulagiri (7th tallest mountain in the world), Nilgiri, Annapurna I (10th tallest mountain in the world), and Annapurna South

Lastly, the short Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is not only about its mesmerizing views but also the warm hospitality of the locals. This area is inhabited by the traditional Gurung and Magar villages. Altogether, you will have a great opportunity to taste authentic cuisines and get a close experience of their daily lifestyle.

Two-Day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking Difficulty

The Ghorepani Poon Hill has the right balance of challenge as well as accessibility hence, making the trek ideal for all. The overall journey is of moderate level with gradual ascents and well-maintained routes.

Moving on, the journey only takes you to the maximum altitude of 3,210 meters/10,532 feet at Poon Hill Viewpoint, making it a perfect journey to help you introduce yourself to high-altitude trekking.

Here, you will also encounter gradual ascents after reaching Banthanti to Ghorepani. However, it is nothing to worry about as anyone with a good fitness level can easily accomplish it.

Additionally, you will trek around 4 hours each day. Hence, the overall trek is not demanding and you will get to enjoy the scenic mountain peaks without getting overwhelmed.

The Best Season For Short Poon Hill Trek

While you can embark on this 2-Day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek all around the year, the best seasons are during the Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). During these seasons, the weather is comfortable with moderate temperatures and clear blue skies.

The Spring season brings the trail alive with the vibrant blooms of rhododendrons, lush green forests, and reviving valleys. On the other hand, the Autumn season revives the route after a long Monsoon season, providing a fresh breath of air and crystal-clear blue skies.

Furthermore, these seasons bring excellent visibility offering panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Choosing any of these seasons ensures a rewarding experience in the Himalayas.

Moving on, since the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek only takes you a little above 3,000 meters in altitude level, the trails are relatively safe. If you are someone who does not like crowds during the peak season, Winter will be the best option for you to enjoy this trek. Also, if you are trekking in winter, always dress up in layers. Having said that, the weather might be unpredictable during Winter, especially as you climb higher elevation hence, at times, your views might be hindered with thick fog or clouds.

Moving on, this drive will give you an opportunity to connect with fellow trekkers while also offering a glimpse of the rural beauty. During this ride, you will pass through lush forests, terraced fields, and quaint villages.

Internet, Telephone, & Battery Charging During The Ghorepani Hiking Adventure

Unlike on the other routes, you will find electricity and Wi-Fi in this region. However, you should understand that, at times, you may have to pay a small charge for electricity or Wi-Fi. Also, having charged that, the Wi-Fi may not properly work sometimes due to bad weather situations.

Some of the tea houses will have charging points in the room while some only have them in the reception or in a dinning hall. Hence, Nepal Trekking Experts recommend that you carry a power bank. Also, both NCELL and NTC SIM cards will work during the journey and hence, you should buy one from the SIM providers in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Insurance for Poon Hill Trek

While this trek may not be challenging at all, unforeseen circumstances might occur every now and then. Hence, it is only wise to be prepared beforehand with travel insurance as it will cover all the expenses such as evacuation costs and coverage for trekking-specific risks in case of emergencies.

Here, when you buy a travel insurance plan, ensure that it covers the required altitude of the trek. Additionally, you should thoroughly check if the policy pays for the expenses upfront or not.

Do I need a Porter?

As the Two-day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek does not require carrying heavy bags and belongings, if you are experienced and fit, you might not need to hire a porter. However, hiring a porter can indeed make a huge difference in the journey.

These skilled and friendly locals can carry up to 20 kg of weight. It would really help with your trek if you are a beginner. By employing a porter, you are not only making your trek more comfortable but also supporting the local community.

Altogether, if you are searching for a porter, feel free to contact Nepal Trekking Experts!

    Great Experience

We did the Short Poon Hill Trek and it was excellent. The views of Annapurna South and Dhaulagiri from the top of Poon Hill were incredible. We got lucky to have good weather on the day of the Poon Hill hike. Prakash was an amazing guide and Padam and Chhwang were amazing porters. They taught us the Dumbal card game from Nepal and we played that a lot in the evenings. Rajesh was also very responsive and helpful before the trek started. Will definitely choose this company if I go back to Nepal for another trek.
